Oxycodone and she overdosed in January 2016

Hunt was charged with unlawful distribution of oxycodone,
alprazolam (Xanax), and possession of a firearm in furtherance of
a drug trafficking crime.

'Mr Hunt had every reason to believe that death would occur when he distributed
the drug,' Assistant US Attorney Ben Garner said at the hearing.

Oxycodone is a powerful narcotic prescription drug often used
illegally to produce a 'high.' It is one of the most popular
illegally used drugs in the country and is responsible for hundreds of deaths a
year.

Prosecutors claimed that Hunt intentionally killed the
19-year-old student - but authorities haven't indicated what led them to determine the
case was a homicide.

roommate at their apartment about five blocks

police said.

Officials initially ruled the Chi Omega sorority sister's death was 'suspicious but accidental,
' according to The State, meaning that circumstances indicated she accidentally had overdosed.

Hunt, who was charged with possession of marijuana with intent
to distribute, had been free on $10,000 bond since last March.

He was arrested Friday on the federal charges and
is being held until a bond hearing is set.

If convicted, Hunt faces a federal prison sentence of 20
years to life.
